Continuing Language Education in Middle and High School

Rising 6th-grade students from Mundo Verde have the unique opportunity to receive transfer preference for enrollment at DCI, ensuring a seamless continuation of their inquiry-based language immersion education from 6th to 12th grade, granted upon successful promotion from Mundo Verde's 5th grade. All 5th grade Mundo Verde students are eligible for this preference, and in cases where demand exceeds available spaces, selections will be determined by lottery among those with preference (through My School DC).

For the upcoming 2024-25 school year, we anticipate around 130 Mundo Verde rising 6th-grade students expressing interest in transfer spaces, resulting in an estimated 60 percent chance of securing a spot at DCI. Historically, all Mundo Verde 5th graders applying to DCI have been successfully accommodated.

DC International School (DCI)

DC International School (DCI) was founded in 2014 through the collaboration of esteemed language immersion charter schools: DC Bilingual, Elsie Whitlow Stokes, Latin American Montessori Bilingual, Mundo Verde, and Washington Yu Ying. These five sister elementary schools feed rising 6th-grade students into DCI every year. As an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, DCI employs the IB's interdisciplinary curriculum, emphasizing language and cultural proficiency in Spanish, French, and Chinese. DCI’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social justice grounds students' learning within both the local community and the global landscape as they delve deep into cultural, environmental, and social issues through the IB's interdisciplinary approach. Supporting families in their rising 6th-grade student’s transition

Mundo Verde supports families in their children’s transition to a quality middle school by:

  • Identifying other quality schools which may be good fits for Mundo Verde students

  • Providing families in advance information about the process of applying to middle schools other than DCI

  • Continuing to focus on preparing students for their transition to middle school generally

  • Collaborating with DCI to seek a solution that will allow all Mundo Verde graduates who desire access to DCI
