MESSAGE
Mundo Verde’s current policy and practices regarding COVID were updated. They reflect over many months of low community spread and low hospitalization rates according to statistics from the DC government, despite a recent uptick.

ACADEMICS

During the Hispanic Heritage Month, we are promoting the "Yo Amo el Español" campaign. Teachers of all grades are taking advantage of Crew time and personal learning time (PLT) to color, listen and visualize about Hispanic leaders from different disciplines.
Specials teachers are also including content on Hispanic Heritage in their dance, music, art and cooking & gardening classes. Even, some students are learning how to make pupusas!

Students will learn about cultural connections, traditions, food, and more, through the Diversity Fair.
We are looking for parents/caregivers to volunteer during the event and also lend our school community your cultural artifacts. If you are interested, please complete this form.

The Mundo Verde Board of Directors will be holding a regular Board meeting on Thursday, September 28. All regular and special board meetings are open to the public, providing the opportunity for stakeholders to observe board operations. The meeting will take place virtually from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

J.F. Cook Campus

Garden Market will return to J.F. Cook campus beginning Tuesday, October 3!
Join us to support our 5th grade Garden Market Interns and local growers. There are always tasty free samples featuring fresh, local produce.
Garden Market dates for October are October 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

How are you feeling about your experience at Mundo Verde so far this year?
To inform important decisions being made by school leaders, Mundo Verde sends a two-question survey to parents and caregivers every month. You should have received an invitation on Thursday 9/21 to participate in the September survey. (If you did not, please check your spam folder.) These ‘pulse’ surveys can be answered via the web or a text message, completed in either English or Spanish, and are sent from Possip. Please also use one of the links below to tell us your thoughts and ideas and raise questions that may be on your mind. Unless you choose to share your name, all responses are anonymized.

Families can view the Unit 1 program schedules for the J.F. Cook and Calle Ocho Campuses.
Unit 1 runs from September 18 to December 15. The variety of enrichments reflected in the schedule is grounded in exploration and discovery through play and group interaction with a balance of indoor and outdoor time.

Turkey Thicket Recreation Center
The Affinity Group for Caregivers of Black Students (CBS) will host their first event on Saturday, September 30 at 2:00pm at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center. This group was established and is led by parents/caregivers. It is designed to address the specific needs and concerns of Black students from diverse backgrounds at Mundo Verde, promoting their success and fostering a sense of belonging within our school community. Join the Walk & Roll to School Day on October 4! This is an annual event that involves communities from across the country walking and rolling to school on the same day. Celebrating the Hispanic Heritage Month!
Oct 13, Both Campuses
Join Padres and Comunidad to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month at both campuses on October 13 from 4:00-6:00pm. Please sign-up here for J.F. Cook Campus and here for Calle Ocho Campus to bring some delicious food and/or to volunteer your time to help make this celebration a huge success.
NEW! Sustainability Committee: September 26
The J.F. Cook Campus Sustainability Committee will meet in person on Tuesday, September 26 after drop off in the garden area to discuss plans for the fall. Spanish interpretation will be available.
Viva Viernes, Sep 29, 4:00pm at Big Bear Cafe
Padres will host the first Viva Viernes/Happy Hour on Friday, September 29 from 4:00-7:00pm at Big Bear Cafe. Come see old friends, meet new ones, and unwind after a long week with the best pizza in DC. It is walking distance from J.F. Cook campus. Supports a Mundo Verde family, and they put on movies upstairs for the kids so parents and caregivers can have adult conversations in peace!
