Parents and caregivers from both campuses are invited to join Principals Johanna and Natalie, and Principals Michelle and Liz for their respective Coffees. Mundo Verde continues committed to leveraging every opportunity the school year brings to create spaces to strengthen a sense of belonging and build community among students, families and staff. The Coffee with Principals will be in person!

School Garden Market is Back
J.F. Cook Campus
Starting October 3

Garden Market is returning to J.F. Cook campus beginning this Tuesday, October 3!

Join us to support our 5th grade Garden Market Interns and local growers. There are always tasty free samples featuring fresh, local produce.

Garden Market dates for October are October 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

We would love to see you there!

Diversity Fair - Looking for Volunteers!

We are looking for parents/caregivers to volunteer during the event and also lend our school community your cultural artifacts. If you are interested, please complete this form. Students will learn about cultural connections, traditions, food, and more, through the Diversity Fair!

  • At Calle Ocho campus - Drop off your compost at the patio on Mondays after dismissal

Please read the updated Mundo Verde COVID policy in English and Spanish. It reflects over many months of low community spread and low hospitalization rates according to statistics from the DC government, despite a recent uptick.

Get four free at-⁠home COVID tests this fall. Every U.S. household may place an order to receive four free COVID rapid tests delivered directly to your home.

NEW! It’s Time For School Services Payments
Due on the 10th of Every Month

School services payments allow us to offer quality services. Monthly payments are due by the 10th of each month. 

On Monday, Oct. 2, families will receive a billing statement for school services for the month of October 2023 with instructions for how to pay for your snacks, meals, and/or Extended Day Program fees on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Walk & Roll to School Day!
October 4

Join the Walk & Roll to School Day on October 4! This is an annual event that involves communities from across the country walking and rolling to school on the same day. Click here to join the movement and pledge to walk or roll to school on October 4! Let's work together to advocate for year-round safe routes to school!

For J.F. Cook Families Only

A bike bus will leave from Alethia Tanner Park at 8:00am (you can come earlier for coffee and snacks!) and will pass by Florida Ave. Park to pick up more riders there. Those who want to walk together can also meet at Florida Ave Park to walk as a group. Kids and adults can both bike and walk. If you can help lead the bike or the walk, please contact Meg Newman at Megan.newman@gmail.com.

Festival - Celebrating the Hispanic Heritage Month!
Oct 13, Both Campuses

Join Padres and Comunidad to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month at both campuses on October 13 from 4:00-6:00pm. Please sign-up here for J.F. Cook Campus and here for Calle Ocho Campus to bring some delicious food and/or to volunteer your time to help make this celebration a huge success.

Padres Neighborhood Safety Committee Meeting
October 4 at 8:00pm

The first Neighborhood Safety meeting for Committee members will be at 8:00pm on Wednesday, Oct 4. The agenda will include introduction of co-chairs, overview and selection of sub-committees, and setting Padres Neighborhood Safety goals for the 2023-24 school year. Dial in here

5th Grade Puerto Rico Trip Fundraising Kickoff
October 4 from 4:00-7:00pm

Join the Happy Hour (4:00-7:30pm) on Wednesday, October 4 to kick-off our 5th grade class fundraising for the Puerto Rico trip. Gran Cata, a wine bar/shop specializing in LatAm wines and located at La Cosecha (by Union Market) will donate a percentage of the proceeds and offer 10% off to-go wine sales. This even is Kid-friendly and there will be some art supplies for kids to work on the Puerto Rico 2024 sticker design contest.

Friday Coffee and All-Hands Padres Meeting
October 6 at 8:15am

Friday, Oct 6 at 8:15am in-person at the “library” room. Working agenda includes: (1) Committee updates (2) Fundraising updates (3) Conversation with Classroom Liaisons about communication strategies.
