EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
November 3 (All Day) & November 8 (Afternoon Only)
Teachers are sending out Parent Teacher Conference sign-ups on ParentSquare. If you have not received it yet, please contact your child’s teacher.
Mark your calendars:
Nov 3: Parent Teacher Conferences all day, NO SCHOOL
Nov 8: Parent Teacher Conferences in the afternoon / Regular School Day
In addition to testing and other assessments, parent-teacher conferences are an important way for families to hear from and discuss with teachers the strengths and weaknesses they are observing in their children – across both social-emotional and academic indicators. Especially for young learners, the development of baseline social-emotional skills are critical building blocks for academic learning. Parents/caregivers should have received student progress reports last week, and these can be discussed with their child’s teacher during their conference. Discussing student progress reports help develop strong partnerships with caregivers so that whenever possible learning at home and learning at school are aligned and supportive. Students are generally not present during these conferences.
November 15, 6:30pm-8:30pm
The Mundo Verde Board of Directors will be holding a regular Board meeting on Wednesday, November 15. All regular and special board meetings are open to the public, providing the opportunity for stakeholders to observe board operations. The meeting will take place virtually from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
For questions related to the meeting, email board@mundoverdepcs.org.
November 15, 8:45am - Both Campuses
Parents and caregivers from both campuses are invited to join Principals Johanna and Natalie, and Principals Michelle and Liz for their respective Coffees. Mundo Verde continues committed to leveraging every opportunity the school year brings to create spaces to strengthen a sense of belonging and build community among students, families and staff. The Coffee with Principals will be in person!
COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS
No Candy and No Costumes on Tuesday, October 31
Consistent with a commitment to diversity, sustainability, and wellness, we ask families to not send your child/ren to school with candy or in costume on Tuesday, October 31.
As a school, Mundo Verde practices a commitment to embrace and celebrate social events that are aligned with our mission and priorities. Our school celebrations focus on cultural heritage and diversity, and we invite families to share their experiences. As a school, we refrain from celebrating days or traditions that may show preference of one group over another or do not align with our school policies. Hence, we do not celebrate holidays such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and holidays of a solely religious nature. For families who value holidays that are not observed at the school, we encourage them to continue the celebrations at home.
To read more about School Traditions, visit the Family Handbook in English (page 21) or Spanish (page 23).
Check out Mundo Verde’s story on CBS! This news segment highlights how Mundo Verde is planting the seeds for a sustainable future, from how it's built to what it serves. With a strong emphasis on bilingualism and diversity, our school embraces social and environmental diversity, empowering bilingual learners to become agents of positive change.
Students are only released to friends and family members who are designated by the student’s parent or legal guardian as authorized pickups. Authorized individuals must be at least 14 years of age and should be prepared to present photo ID. The school does not release a student to anyone not authorized, even to someone the student knows.
Please ensure your authorized pick-up information is updated through the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. Please allow five business days to process your requests.
Click here to read How to request updates through the IC parent portal.
Dress Code/Uniforms
All students are expected to attend school dressed in a Mundo Verde t-shirt or sweatshirt as their school uniform everyday.
As a general guidelines, student belongings including clothes should be labeled with the student’s name so it can be returned to the owner in case they get lost.
More information on Dress Code/Uniforms can be found in the Family Handbook in English (page 73) and Spanish (page 79).
Cold Weather Attire
Students should come to school daily prepared with appropriate clothing for outside activities especially because we try to expose students to outdoors even when there is cold weather or precipitation (hat, gloves, warm jacket, boots, layers). Families in need of assistance may contact the front desk.
Thank you for supporting students to follow our school norms.
A parent/guardian or caregiver who believes that they or their child have been treated unfairly is encouraged to discuss the situation with the student's classroom teacher in an effort to resolve the issue. A concern may be raised through a conversation during regular school hours, via email (click HERE for staff directory), through ParentSquare via direct messages (instructions HERE), by leaving a message with the front desk/reception, or if a longer conversation is needed through a scheduled meeting.
Teachers do their best to answer questions from parents/caregivers, and in those cases when they do not have the answer, they will direct you to your child’s principal or dean. If the situation warrants an urgent/same day response, please call the front desk to communicate your concern.
To improve clarity, transparency, and overall school responsiveness, we are in the process of updating and re-publishing the Complaint, Grievance and Resolution Process.
HEALTH & SAFETY
In order to maintain a healthy school, parents/caregivers should not send their children to school with any contagious diseases such as the flu, strep throat, chickenpox, measles, conjunctivitis (pink eye), ringworm, or scabies. Students with any of these conditions will be sent home from school until they are no longer contagious. Parents/caregivers must pick up their child within two hours of being notified that their child is sick with a contagious illness. Please follow the following guidelines:
If the student is not feeling well in the morning, particularly if they have a fever of 100 degrees or more, do not send them to school.
Parents/caregivers should not send their children to school within 24 hours of vomiting or running a fever of 100 degrees or higher.
Students should not return to campus until they have been fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication (i.e Tylenol, Motrin)
Students should not return to school until 24 – 36 hours after beginning the course of antibiotics.
If parents/caregivers believe that the student has a communicable disease, we encourage them to visit a Doctor's office, clinic, ER or health center.
Examples of communicable diseases in children include common cold, Chicken Pox, Herpes Simplex, Measles, Influenza (“flu”), hepatitis, and Intestinal parasites, among many others.
If the student is diagnosed and/or treated for a communicable disease, please inform the school and provide the nurse/medically trained staff with any necessary documentation at cookhealth@mundoverdepcs.org and cookattendance@mundoverdepcs.org (for J.F. Cook campus), or c8health@mundoverdepcs.org and c8attendance@mundoverdepcs.org (for Calle Ocho campus) and / or in person. The school will request documentation that the student is cleared to return to school both for their safety and the safety of other students and staff in order for them to return to school.
To read more about Student Care, visit the Family Handbook in English (page 58) and Spanish (page 62).
