ACADEMICS

NEW! Fall Expeditions Launch This Week

Learning Expeditions, are a core practice of our EL Education model, are long term, in-depth studies of social studies and science content of real-world issues. Expeditions encourage students to learn to make connections, understand diverse perspectives, develop conclusions, and understand how their lives are connected to the world around them. Students learn from fieldwork experiences as well as experts and professionals in the field of study.

Mundo Verde expeditions are framed around key concepts of sustainability: the natural, social, and economic systems that comprise our complex world.

Learning expeditions culminate with celebrations of learning (known as Expos) when students show parents/caregivers, teachers, and members of the community what they learned and showcase their final student work. Expos are a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to hear from their children what has been learned more clearly than just a grade on a report card.

NEW! Academic Reports for Trimester 1

On Friday, October 27, Academic Reports and MAP Reports will be sent to all families. Reports for Kinder-5th grade students will be sent via ParentSquare (email / text message). GOLD Reports for PreK students and IEP Progress Reports for all grades are different. These reports will be send via email from info@mundoverdepcs.org.

If you do not receive your child’s report, please contact platforms@mundoverdepcs.org.

Questions about your child's performance? Please contact your teacher.

COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS

NEW! Mundo Verde in the Spotlight

Mundo Verde: The Bilingual School That Cultivates Sustainable Futures in DC
We are thrilled to announce that Mundo Verde has been featured in a recent article by The Washington Hispanic Newspaper. This feature highlights our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our unique approach to creating a nurturing environment for learning and growth.

"The school is not just a learning space, it's a vibrant community that celebrates diversity and inclusion."

Mundo Verde on CBS News!
CBS made a special visit to our school to witness our unique sustainability and bilingual program in action!!

CBS filmed a news story examining how Mundo Verde integrates sustainability operations and education, uses expeditionary learning, and embraces social and environmental diversity so bilingual learners can experience a sense of agency now and become global stewards of our common future.

Featuring interviews with students, faculty and school leaders the piece highlights the way the school’s education for sustainability curriculum dovetails with real-time practices and expeditionary learning so that students learn in the classroom, from each other, through topical research and in-depth expeditions.

The program is scheduled to air on Monday, October 23 on CBS stations across the country. Stay tuned! Check out some behind the scenes pictures tomorrow on social media.

NEW! Authorized Pick-Ups Reminder

Students are only released to friends and family members who are designated by the student’s parent or legal guardian as authorized pickups. Authorized individuals must be at least 14 years of age and should be prepared to present photo ID. The school does not release a student to anyone not authorized, even to someone the student knows.

Please ensure your authorized pick-up information is updated through the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. Please allow five business days to process your requests.

Click here to read How to request updates through the IC parent portal.

Your Child’s Teacher is Your Resource / Main Contact

Mundo Verde strives to create a welcoming and engaging climate with strong relationships and communications between families and school staff, partnering with families to support student achievement, and investing families in school success. In this spirit, teachers are encouraged to communicate with parents and caregivers on a regular basis, and parents/caregivers can count on your child’s teacher as the main point of contact for any questions related to your child’s learning, school day/schedule, and the curriculum.

Teachers may be reached through ParentSquare via direct messages (click HERE for instructions), by e-mail (click HERE for staff directory), or by leaving a message with the front desk/reception. Teachers do their best to answer questions from parents/caregivers, and in those cases when they do not have the answer, they will direct you to your child’s principal or dean. Please allow all school staff 48 hours to respond to your email. If the situation warrants an urgent/same day response, please call the front desk to communicate your concern.

To improve clarity, transparency, and overall school responsiveness, we are in the process of updating and re-publishing the Complaint, Grievance and Resolution Process.

Concert Harmony Zhu, Piano at Mundo Verde & Complementary Tickets for Families

Supporting Mundo Verde’s organizational goal of “Ensuring an equitable experience in access to information and resources”, our school was selected by the Young Concert Artists Association to host a piano pre-concert with the great Harmony Zhu. Students from both campuses enjoyed a delightful performance that included works by Chopin, Kapustin, Scriabin, among others.

Additionally, Mundo Verde families are invited by the Young Concert Artists to attend a concert featuring Harmony Zhu at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:30pm.

To secure complimentary tickets, please RSVP to Drake Driscoll via email at drake@yca.org by Monday, October 30 at 5:00pm. Tickets will be offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. All RSVPs should mention an affiliation with Mundo Verde.
