COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS

First Call! All Communications From Your Teachers, Principals, and Leadership Will Sent Via ParentSquare
Starting November 28 Exclusively on ParentSquare

Up until now, the communications team has sent supplemental text messages to all families (with active or inactive ParentSquare accounts) to ensure every family receives all the communications from the school. Starting on Monday, November 28, all communications from teachers, principals, and school leadership will be posted/sent exclusively through ParentSquare.

If you have not activated your ParentSquare account yet, you will receive a reminder email from ParentSquare on November 15 with a link to activate it. Click on it and enjoy communicating with our school community!

It is important that you, as a parent and caregiver, have your ParentSquare account active to be up to date on your child's school life and to receive and send messages to your child’s teacher

Thoughts on Parent Teacher Conferences?
Be sure to Complete this Month’s Possip Survey: bit.ly/2B4Bw4R

Parents and caregivers have a chance to share thoughts and ask questions through a monthly survey sent via text message or email.  Please use this opportunity to tell us your ideas and raise questions that may be on your mind. The surveys are sent through Possip, and unless you choose to share your name, all responses are anonymized.

** DEADLINE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES IS MONDAY 11/14 **

Click here now to have your voice heard:  English | Spanish

We do ask, please, that questions that are very specifically about an issue related to your child/ren’s day at school (about a meal, an assignment, a late arrival, and so forth) be addressed directly to the appropriate member of the staff. To see who can best address a specific question, please see the “Who to Ask Questions” diagram in English or Spanish

NEW! Compost Drop Off for Our Community
J.F. Cook Campus

Starting on Tuesday, November 15, Mundo Verde families and staff can drop off food waste to be composted!  Bring your food scraps during the Garden Market every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30pm. This is currently only available at J.F. Cook campus. We will introduce this compost program at Calle Ocho this winter.

If you have any questions, please email Carissa Tirado-Marks, Sustainability Manager at ctiradomarks@mundoverdepcs.org.

Growing With Our Students - Calle Ocho Campus

We are excited to move forward with the purchase and development of the property at 817 Varnum Street NE, as a part of the Mundo Verde board’s approval of the school’s three-part comprehensive schoolwide facilities financing plan. Under the preferred development plan for this Calle Ocho adjacent property, the campus will have eight more classrooms, two acres of outdoor space, and the capacity to cook meals on-site. To read more about Calle Ocho’s growth plan and what it means for our community, visit the Calle Ocho page on the school website.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Last Week! Childhood Vaccination Clinics
Available Until November 18

DC Health is offering childhood vaccination clinics at five locations around the city until November 18. The clinics are designed to ensure that any child who is excluded from school because that child is still noncompliant with the District’s school vaccination policy can receive a vaccination and return to school.

Parents whose children are still not up-to-date on their required vaccinations should first contact their regular pediatric provider to schedule an appointment for vaccinations. If parents do not have a regular pediatric provider or are unable to schedule an appointment with that provider, they can call Children’s National Hospital at 1-800-884-BEAR (1-800-884-2327) and request to schedule an appointment for general pediatrics as soon as possible.

The clinics operate Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. Additional evening and weekend hours are also be available on select dates and at select locations. Click here to read the full announcement.

SCHOOL SERVICES

School Lunch - Ocassional Charges

We want to remind families about this year’s fee for school lunch. During the last two years, school meals were free for every student due to the pandemic.

Lunch fees are as follows:

  • Calle Ocho Campus: $4.50

  • J.F. Cook Campus: $4.85

  • FARM Families: Free

In the case of students requesting lunch, the school policy is to provide them with a school lunch (with a fee associated). The school will never refuse a student who requests a meal.

Any student receiving a lunch is recorded in our system (Infinite Campus), and there will be a charge on their account for that specific day regardless of actively being enrolled or not in the school meals program.

If you have any questions about your school meal balances, please reach out to Jack Leng, Senior Food Manager, to clarify it at meals@mundoverdepcs.org

Extended Day Program Updates

Extended Day Program Monthly Payments Reminders

  • Families with more than one child, should use the sibling discount (product) only for their 2nd or 3rd child.

  • If you have not made your November payment, please do so right away.
