Attendance Reminders

Prompt and consistent attendance is critical to learning and success in school. While PreK is a non-compulsory grade, Mundo Verde encourages families to establish attendance habits during a child’s first years of school. Attendance policies apply to all students in PreK-5th grade, although the DC Compulsory Attendance Law only applied to grades K-5.

If your child misses large amounts of school due to health or medical concerns, please set up a meeting with your teacher to discuss your child’s needs.

Attendance in the first few weeks of school is also critical to each student’s enrollment status. DC laws considers any student between the ages of 5 and 13 to be truant when they have accrued 10 unexcused absences. Mundo Verde is required to report students who accrue 10 full-day unexcused absences to CFSA for educational neglect. Mundo Verde works to prevent truancy by identifying students at-risk of accruing a high number of unexcused absences and providing interventions using several points of engagement.

NEW! MAP Testing
September 20 to October 6

From September 20 to October 6, all students from Kinder through 5th grades will take the Measures of Academic Progress assessment (MAP). MAP is an assessment to measure their Math, English, and Spanish growth and proficiency. Our instructional staff uses this as one data point to help inform instruction for all students. HEALTH & SAFETY

Calle Ocho Campus Traffic Management

Mundo Verde is committed to the well-being of each of its campuses’ neighborhoods. For the Calle Ocho community, it is critically important that all members of the school community support pedestrian/ biker/ driver safety by following these expectations:

  • Drivers should not use the neighborhood alleys as shortcuts or means to access or depart from the school.

  • Drivers should not stand or park along the westbound lane of Varnum street from 12th to 8th streets NE which is currently signed as NO PARKING.

  • Drivers should respect and follow the directions of the school’s traffic monitors/safety agents.

  • Parents/caregivers should not j-walk or cross Varnum street except where there is an official pedestrian crosswalk.

  • Pedestrians/drivers should follow all DC traffic and parking regulations.

  • Be courteous to those in the community, as neighbors are also managing commutes to work and dropping their children off at school/daycare.

Student Medication and Medical Procedures

We ask parent/caregivers with students in need of medication and/or medical procedures during the instructional day to:

  1. Meet with the campus nurse and present a completed medical plan signed by the responsible person and the licensed health care provider, giving consent to administer.  This includes over the counter medications. The licensed health care provider's signed authorization must include:

    • Student's name and date of birth

    • Diagnosis, reason for the medication/procedure

    • Name of medication/procedure

    • Time and frequency the medication/procedure is to be performed at school

    • Expected duration of treatment

    • Special instructions or emergency procedures

  2. Plese note that a separate plan must be completed and submitted for each procedure and or medication.

Please contact your campus nurse for further information.

SCHOOL SERVICES

NEW! Complete the Meals Enrollment Form (Breakfast and Lunch)

If you have not completed the meal enrollment form for your child/ren, please do so by logging into your Parent Portal in Infinite Campus (scroll down to the "documents" tab on the left side.) This would help the kitchen team accurately and efficiently prepare breakfast and lunch for all students who would like to eat.

Food is not denied to any student, but if a student is not enrolled, then they might get an alternative meal due to supply. So we highly recommend enrolling if you would like your child to be guaranteed what's on the menu.

Breakfast is free for all students, and lunch is a monthly fee of $100 unless you qualify for FARM.

Questions about FARM application or billing? - meals@mundoverdepcs.org.

Teaching associates also focus on establishing norms and routines to ensure the implementation of a safe, quality program for everyone.

Applications Submitted After August 21
If your family submitted a form requesting the program after August 21, you will be notified before September 15 about the status. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we expand the program to meet the current demand.

Parents of the PreK students enrolled in the Extended Day Program at J.F. Cook campus must go to La Casita reception to pick up their child. All students not picked up by 5:55pm will be transitioned to the Zocalo at La Casa.
