We wish our fifth graders a great, memorable experience in Puerto Rico where they will apply their learning and knowledge to a brand new immersion context. We are excited to see them creating new connections through language, culture, and the environment. This Capstone trip will empower them to take responsibility for their learning and their contributions to their own community and gain confidence in their roles as biliterate and bicultural global citizens.

Listen Ms. Fatima, 5th Grade Capstone Trip Coordinator, as she shares the excitement and significance of the Capstone Trip to Puerto Rico.

School Calendar Update - Last Day of School

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

June In-Person Board Meeting - Virtually Accessible
June 6, 6:30-8:30pm
Registration Required

The board of directors is holding their Election Meeting on June 6, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:30pm in person at Calle Ocho Campus. An election meeting is a meeting of the board held in June of each year, in which the board nominates and elects a slate of directors and officers for the next school year. Current board member terms and officer roles will be renewed and/or shifted for the next year. Note that the board may also elect new directors to fill vacancies on the board at any time during the year.

In addition, the board is creating space for stakeholders to share with them their perspectives on the needs of our school community as we prioritize staffing and resources for the remainder of SY23-24, and into SY24-25, by way of Public Comment. The board is dedicating 10 minutes for 5 individuals to provide public comment at the June 6 meeting. If more than 5 people sign up, the board president may use their discretion to allow for a diversity of community voices as well as to schedule additional public comment sessions at upcoming board meetings.

Public Comment: Those attending in person may indicate their interest in providing public comment at the June 6th meeting using the Public Comment form included in the registration link. All members of the community may provide public comment in writing as an alternative.

Registration is required for both in-person and virtual board meeting attendance. As is always the case, all regular and special board meetings are open to the public, providing the opportunity for stakeholders to observe board operations. Registration is required to attend in person, to join via zoom, or to participate in Public Comment, please refer to the instructions below:

RSVP to join in person / RSVP to join in person and public comment / RSVP to join via Zoom

For questions related to the meeting, please email board@mundoverdepcs.org.

COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS

NEW! Farewell to Chef Dot

After six years of dedicated service to our Mundo Verde community, our beloved school chef, Dorothy Steck, is retiring this year. Chef Dot has been an integral part of our school community, not only for their culinary expertise but also for their warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to providing nutritious and delicious meals to our students. Their creative flair and passion for cooking have enriched the dining experience for our entire J.F. Cook community.

Throughout their tenure, Chef Dot has nourished our children's bodies while fostering a sense of belonging and connection with healthy food and better habits in our diets. They have been a familiar face, always ready with a smile and a listening ear for our students. While we are sad to see Chef Dot go, we are incredibly grateful for the invaluable contributions they have made to our school over the years. Their legacy will continue to inspire us and remind us of the importance of good food and genuine care. We invite you to join us in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to Chef Dot for their years of dedicated service and to wish them all the best as they embark on this new chapter of their life.

As we bid farewell to Chef Dot, we are actively working to ensure a smooth transition in our meal operations. Rest assured, we remain committed to providing nutritious meals that meet our students' needs and preferences.

LAST CHANCE! Parent/Guardian Board Members Nominations
Deadline: Tomorrow, June 3

The deadline for nominating community board members was extended until June 3, 2024

Please see the revised form and note that allows for parents/caregivers of currently enrolled students to either nominate themselves or, importantly, to also nominate other parents/guardian to serve on the board of directors.

The board is committed to adding members with a wide range of views that encompass the diversity, backgrounds and expertise of our community. Please consider who you think can serve our community during this critical time in our evolution as a school based on our core and enduring values of Empathy, Speak your truth, Perseverance, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Appreciation (ESPICA).

Please also see the description in English and Spanish of what is involved in serving as a community board member for your school.

Please be sure to send in your nominations by no later than June 3.
