Students From Kinder to Second Grade
Beginning this school year, Mundo Verde must screen all students in Kinder through Second Grade to identify students considered at-risk for reading difficulties. This screening is required by the Addressing Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties Amendment Act of 2020 (DC Law 23-191). This screener does not diagnose dyslexia.
Mundo Verde selected FastBridge Early Reading, a screener approved by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). FastBridge identifies students with composite scores below the 15th percentile as High Risk for later reading difficulties, and our school uses this benchmark to designate students as “at risk.”
Screeners will be conducted the week of February 26. Families of students identified as at-risk will receive a separate letter from Ms. Delmy Rodriguez, Director of Student Services, the week of March 11, including specific notification that the student’s screening indicated they are at-risk of reading difficulties, as well as a description of the instructional support that is being implemented to address identified needs.
If you have questions about Mundo Verde’s screening process or intervention for at-risk students, please contact Ms. Delmy at delrodriguez@mundoverdepcs.org.
March 13 (Afternoon Only) & March 14 (All Day)
Student Led Conferences (SLC) provide a forum in which your child has the opportunity to lead the discussion about their own progress by sharing work and reflecting on their growth.
Teachers are working with each of their students in grades Kinder - 5th, preparing them to present to their family members their progress.
SLC will take place on March 13 (afternoon only) and March 14 (all day).
March 13 (Afternoon Only) & March 14 (All Day)
Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) in PreK are one-on-one conferences not including students, where teachers share individualized evidence of current strengths and needs. Its purpose is to build strong home to school partnership for academic and social success; and share data on academics and social emotional learning.
PTC will take place on March 13 (afternoon only) and March 14 (all day).

The Spanish Book Fair is staffed entirely by Mundo Verde families. WE NEED YOU TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS! Please sign up HERE if you can help with book sorting, book display, cashier at register, or other.
Through the Spanish Book Fair, we foster the love for Spanish in our school community, address language inequity and, as possible, add to the wonderful titles in Spanish in our classroom libraries. You will find unique books that otherwise would be difficult to find.
With your help, we all can make this Book Fair happen!!
J.F. Cook Campus Talent Show
We are thrilled to announce that J.F. Cook campus will host a Talent Show in May.
This will be a fun opportunity for students in grades K-5 to share their talents with the school community.
From February 26 through March 8, a sign-up sheet will be located outside of Ms. Rose's classroom (Art room). We encourage all students who wish to participate to sign up during this period.
Whether it's singing, dancing, comedy, magic, or any other special skill, we welcome all acts to audition. Please note that group acts will be prioritized, but solo acts are also welcome.
Performance slots are limited, an audition will be conducted on Wednesday, March 13, and Monday, March 11 (during crew) to finalize a list of students performing at the Talent Show. Performances should last no longer than 3 minutes. If your child signs up, please assist with practicing at home.
If you have any questions or need further information, don't hesitate to reach out to the J.F. Cook Campus Specials Team at cookspecials@mundoverdepcs.org or Dean Kata at kbeltran@mundoverdepcs.org.
COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS
Which is why we place so much importance on social/emotional development.
We want to know about your child’s experience at Mundo Verde – as well as your own.
Keep an eye out for links to the mid-year family survey coming soon!
HEALTH & SAFETY
A smooth arrival and dismissal are paramount to ensure a safe and happy learning environment. Calle Ocho campus is located in a non-commercial zone with narrow residential streets making traffic very challenging.
Neighboring residents and organizations continue to complain to us and local officials that some parents/caregivers are engaging in unsafe driving and possibly illegal behaviors. Mundo Verde is seeking support from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Our staff are here to help students and families during arrival and dismissal but we are not law enforcement officials. To continue being good neighbors, the school has now reached out to MPD to seek support for ticketing and traffic monitoring. MPD will be visiting the area on random days of the week.
We thank the vast majority of families who are already helping make sure this busy time is also a safe time.
