COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS

NEW! Halloween No Candy and No Costumes

Consistent with a commitment to diversity, sustainability, and wellness, we ask families to not send your child/ren to school with candy or in costume prior to Halloween on Friday, October 28, nor Monday, October 31.

As a school, Mundo Verde practices a commitment to embrace and celebrate social events that are aligned with our mission and priorities. Our school celebrations focus on cultural heritage and diversity, and we invite families to share their experiences. As a school, we refrain from celebrating days or traditions that may show preference of one group over another or do not align with our school policies. Hence, we do not celebrate holidays such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and holidays of a solely religious nature. For families who value holidays that are not observed at the school, we encourage them to continue the celebrations at home.

NEW! Possip Survey Results

Thank you to everyone in the community who has been taking the time with Possip surveys to educate school leaders about what’s important to you.

Read our Community Pulse Blog for a summary of what we have learned.

Calle Ocho Campus - Michigan Park Community Playground

We now understand that although the signs for the Michigan Park Community Playground indicate a suggested age of 5-12, our PreK students may continue to use the park, with the noted exception of the rope tower structure, which is specifically designed for children 5 and older.

Our PreK students resumed usage of the Michigan Park Community Playground this past week! As we resume, teachers are ensuring PreK students refrain from utilizing the rope tower structure for safety reasons.

This Week! Picture Day

 Reminders:

  • Uniform - All students must wear their Mundo Verde T-shirt.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Masking No Longer Required
Starting Oct 17

Based on results from school testing protocols implemented during the first six weeks of school, as well as community-wide Covid data, masks are optional at Mundo Verde as of Monday, October 17. We continue tracking public health guidance, best practices, and evolving science related to Covid throughout the Fall and Winter and inform staff and families as needed of any adjustments to masking or testing protocols. Please continue to carefully follow existing guidance if anyone in your immediate family or household is exposed to or contracts Covid.

Childhood Vaccination Clinics
Available Until November 18

DC Health is offering childhood vaccination clinics at five locations around the city until November 18. The clinics are designed to ensure that any child who is excluded from school because that child is still noncompliant with the District’s school vaccination policy can receive a vaccination and return to school.

Parents whose children are still not up-to-date on their required vaccinations should first contact their regular pediatric provider to schedule an appointment for vaccinations. If parents do not have a regular pediatric provider or are unable to schedule an appointment with that provider, they can call Children’s National Hospital at 1-800-884-BEAR (1-800-884-2327) and request to schedule an appointment for general pediatrics as soon as possible.

The clinics will operate Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. Additional evening and weekend hours will also be available on select dates and at select locations. Click here to read the full announcement.

NEW! Covid Boosters and Flu Vaccine Are Now Recommended For All Individuals 5 Years of Age and Up

The FDA authorized bivalent COVID-19 vaccines for use as a booster dose in younger age groups.

The bivalent boosters are now recommended for all individuals 5 years of age or older if it has been at least two months since they have completed their primary vaccination series, or at least two months since they received a previous booster dose.

DC Health continues to emphasize the importance of vaccinations and boosters to help District residents protect themselves and their families from Covid-19. To find the closest vaccination location to you:

  1. Visit coronavirus.dc.gov to find the nearest District COVID Center or DC Health community vaccine clinic

  2. Make an appointment with your healthcare provider

  3. Make an at-home vaccination appointment by calling 1-855-363-0333

Find other opportunities to get vaccinated by visiting vaccines.gov.

SCHOOL SERVICES

Mundo Verde Services Payments Reminders

We have heard a number of questions about when and how parents should pay for school services. School services have DIFFERENT payment mechanisms in the Infinite Campus portal.

ALL Families that don’t qualify for FARM: Daily snacks should be paid for monthly through the portal's fees

Students participating in school lunch: Families should prepay for lunch by adding money to their child's food services account. OJO: If your account is showing a negative balance, you add funds to your food services account. Click here for instructions on how to add money to your account. Spanish here.

Students participating in the Extended Day Program: Program fees should be paid monthly, through the parent's portal - school store. Click here for instructions on how to add money to your account. Spanish here.

Once you add all of the required fees to your cart, you can pay all of your fees in one single transaction.

For questions about how to add money, fees, and payments, email Rocio Yoc, Senior Business Manager at invoice@mundoverdepcs.org.

Questions About School Services?

Extended Day Program

NEW! Sibling Discount Product Now Available in the School Store

If you are a family with more than one student in the Extended Day Program you are entitled to a 10% discount for siblings. To facilitate this transaction, we created a product titled “Sibling 10% Discount” in the school store. We ask families to pay for student #2, student #3 and so forth using the steps described in the How to Pay Guide in ENG and SPA.  We are committed to reimbursing families for sibling discounts that were not applied to September payments.

Extended Day Program Payments

Please be reminded that payment for the program is due on the 10th of the month. Families seeking to make their October payments can follow these instructions: How to Pay Guide in ENG and SPA. If you have not made your October payment, please do so right away!

Questions:  Email extendedday@mundoverdepcs.org.
