All the elements of instruction at Mundo Verde—differentiated (small group) instruction, learning expeditions, two-way language immersion, and inclusion—encourage students to progress at their own pace and provide them with open-ended opportunities to stretch themselves to their best ability in every academic subject. Small group instruction also allows teachers to meet the needs of all learners—including English-language learners, students with special needs, and gifted and talented students.

Each classroom has one lead teacher and a teaching fellow. The ratio in the PK3 classroom is 1 to 6, and in all other grades the ratio is 1 to 11. 

Additional teaching specialists (in reading, math, language learners, and special education) provide in-class support to our classroom teachers.

PK3 and PK4 students learn primarily in Spanish as their primary teachers are Spanish speaking. They spend a small portion of time with English-speaking teachers during certain specials. Kindergarten and 1st grade students have two teams of teachers: one with Spanish-speaking teachers and one with English-speaking teachers. Students spend half of their time with each set of teachers, switching as a class between the teaching teams.

Teacher Qualifications and Training:

All of our lead teachers are highly qualified, with at least a bachelors degree, full certification from the state, and expertise in both subject matter and appropriate age group instruction. We find our energetic teachers through national and local searches through the Urban Teacher Center, Teach for America, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, Expeditionary Learning Schools, and other channels. All of our teachers are selected competitively, and we aim to recruit and retain a diverse group of experienced and dedicated teachers that offer high-quality instruction. Our teaching fellows are in the process of achieving their certifications. 

We believe strongly in the importance of teacher training and on-going professional development. We provide a summer training institute for the teachers as well as dedicated time during each week for planning and professional development—both individually and together. The in-school training takes place one day a week when the school closes at 1:00 pm. We provide aftercare on this weekly teacher training day.

Todos los elementos de la instrucción en Mundo Verde: la instrucción diferenciada (en grupos pequeños), las expediciones didácticas, la inmersión lingüística dual y la inclusión, facilitan el aprendizaje de los alumnos a su propio ritmo y les brindan todo tipo de oportunidades para esforzarse hasta el máximo de sus habilidades en todas sus asignaturas. La instrucción en grupos pequeños también permite a los maestros atender las necesidades de todos los alumnos, incluidos aquellos que están aprendiendo inglés, los que tienen necesidades especiales y los que van más avanzados.

Cada clase tiene un(a) maestro/a principal y un(a) asistente de aula. La proporción de maestros a alumnos en el aula preescolar es de 1 a 6, y en todos los demás grados la relación es de 1 a 11.

Un grupo adicional de docentes, especialistas en lectura, matemáticas, aprendizaje de idiomas y educación especial, brindan apoyo a nuestros maestros en el aula.

Cada grado cuentan con dos equipos de maestros: uno de habla hispana y uno de habla inglesa. Los alumnos pasan la mitad de su tiempo con cada equipo de maestros, y cambian de equipo de maestros con su mismo grupo.

Cualificación y formación de los maestros

Todos nuestros maestros principales serán personas sumamente preparadas, con una licenciatura como mínimo, plena certificación del Estado, y experiencia en la materia y con el grupo etario de sus alumnos. Estamos llevando a cabo una búsqueda a nivel nacional y local a través del Centro de Maestros Urbanos, Teach for America, la Alianza Nacional de Escuelas Charter, Escuelas de Aprendizaje Expedicionario, y otros medios para identificar maestros dinámicos y experimentados. Todos nuestros maestros serán seleccionados de forma competitiva. Nuestro objetivo es reclutar y retener a un grupo diverso de maestros experimentados y dedicados que ofrezcan instrucción de alta calidad. Nuestros asistentes de aula estarán en vías de obtener sus certificaciones.

Creemos firmemente en la importancia de la formación docente y el desarrollo profesional continuo. Hemos recaudado fondos para poder ofrecer a nuestros maestros un programa de capacitación durante el verano, así como tiempo durante cada semana dedicado específicamente a la planificación y el desarrollo profesional, tanto de forma individual como en equipo. La capacitación en la escuela se llevará a cabo una vez por semana, día en que la escuela cerrará a la 1:00 pm. Se ofrecerán servicios de guardería después de las clases para esa sesión semanal de formación docente.
